This Lohri I’m celebrating myself, as a woman reclaiming her narrative: Hunar Hali
This Lohri is more than a festival for Rimjhim - Choti Umar Bada Safar actress Hunar Hali. It is a celebration of life, love, and milestones for her as a woman. Excerpts.'On the significance of Lohri for me'Lohri, for me, is no longer just about traditions or rituals—it’s about burning what no longer serves me. This year, the bonfire feels deeply personal. It’s about letting go of silence, compromise, and expectations placed on women to “endure gracefully.” Lohri celebrates fire—and fire doesn’t ask permission. It transforms. And that’s exactly where I am in life right now.'How I celebrate LohriI celebrate'I celebrate Lohri consciously. I stand by the fire with intention. I offer gratitude for what strengthened me—and I unapologetically release what broke me. I don’t celebrate to prove happiness; I celebrate to claim my power. Sometimes celebration is loud, sometimes it’s quiet, and sometimes it’s just a woman standing tall, refusing to shrink.'Is this year’s Lohri special for me?'This Lohri is extraordinary because I’m celebrating myself—not as someone’s partner, not through a role society assigned me, but as a woman reclaiming her narrative. Yes, I’m navigating personal upheaval. Yes, I’m shooting a super-hit show called Rimjhim playing Mohini, a woman society loves to judge. And I find it fascinating—when a woman plays a strong, unapologetic character onscreen, she’s called “negative,” but when she does the same in real life, she’s called “difficult.”
This Lohri, I reject both labels.'If I could gift myself something luxurious this Lohri...'I would gift myself freedom—the most luxurious thing a woman can own. Freedom to choose peace over pretense. Freedom to walk away without guilt. Freedom to succeed without explaining my ambition. If I had to wrap it in silk and gold, maybe it would look like a quiet retreat, a powerful investment, or simply time—time to heal, to rise, to become unstoppable. Because abundance isn’t just material.Prosperity is waking up unafraid of your truth. Also this Lohri, the most meaningful luxury for me would be gifting my mother a timeless piece of jewellery — something classic that she can cherish forever. It’s my way of expressing gratitude for her blessings, strength, and the abundance she has brought into my life. Celebrating prosperity feels complete only when it’s shared with her.
